Food Sustainability
The food in the grocery store is considered of an unsustainable food system. Sustainable food is considered food that is healthy for people and animals. Sustainable food does not harm the environment It is considered humane for worker. It helps to provides a fair
wage for farmers. It tends tosupport and enhances rural communities.According to some sources food that we see in the grocery store that sell for cheap prices cost to your health and environment. To become a healthier person, instead of buying certain products at the grocery, it is better to make it on your own, such as yogurt, seasonings, sauces etc. Eating locally grown food provides you with the nutrients needed in everyday life, it is healthier for you and can keep you healthy and live longer.
Food Programs
What I know about food programs in my neighborhood is that there is a Food Pantry that recently opened up. Also the elementary school P.S.17 which is about a 15 minute walk or 10 minute bus ride from my house gives school lunches free for kids during the summer. Recently, City Harvest came to my neighborhood to provide all residents with fruits and vegetables. There is also a garden in my neighborhood. I feel bad that I do not know much about the garden and what they provide, it seems to be closed whenever I am home. A couple of blocks away from my building it Socrates Sculpture Park, every Saturday they have a farmers market. I do not know if there are other Food Programs in my neighborhoods and I feel kind of bad about not knowing

Brooklyn Grange
Visiting the Brooklyn Grange was a wonderful experience. I have been to other farms before, but, this was the first time I have ever been to a rooftop farm. I never thought nor would have ever thought that there were farms on a roof, especially in NYC. I thought that a rooftop farm in NYC would be impossible. The farm was beautiful and I loved the colorfulness of the farm. The smell was terrible but that didn't stop me from enjoying the farm. I learned about what is required in order to start a farm on the roof and what kinds of things you could grow. I thought it was weird seeing chickens up there and felt bad for them. I loved seeing the chickens. My favorite was the big one that was donated to the farm. Going to the Brooklyn Grange was an amazing experience.Hopefully, I will get to go back to visit again someday soon.

There is CORN everywhere!!
An issue raised by Michael Pollan is that food tend to have been made with corn. To determine with foods has corn in it will show on the label high fructose corn syrup which adds more sugar to food. Other labels include Xanthan Gum, corn syrup, citric acid etc.. According to Pollan, corn is also found in household products such as diapers, body wash, shampoo, toothpaste, and cosmetics etc.., Basically Pollan is saying that everything we have is made up with corn and corn is everywhere and it is something that is hard to stay away from corn.

Locovores
A locovore is someone who eats food that was grown locally. So basically locovores only eat food that is in season. If they want something that is out of season they would not go purchase it elsewhere. I think that being a locovore would be a good thing because you know where your food come from. You don't have to read labels that tells you that it was shipped from somewhere on the other side of the country. I am not a locovore since I shop at the supermarket. Also, locally grown food is safer to eat and much healthier to eat. People who are locovores are much healthier than others.

Organic Food
What I know about organic food is that the food is all natural. There are no pesticides in organic food. Organic food is not processed. I have always heard that eating organic can give you a healthier lifestyle. I have eaten organic food a few times and it did not taste any different than processed foods to me. I did think that eating organic food is a healthier way to eat but now I am not so sure about that. I see in the supermarket all the time where organic food is located, having labels on food stating that it is organic and untampered with but I do not believe that it is true. Just because the labels on the food say that it is organic and untampered with does not mean that it’s true. I don’t think that people should trust everything that is said on the labels. I have seen on the news once that the FDA approved the labels of food, which the food was supposedly organic, being sold in groceries, and soon proven to be non-organic. So who knows if all the foods in the supermarket considered organic really is organic. We can't trust what the FDA says about food since it seems like all they do is lie and it seems that they just approve these companies food without even testing their food to make sure that it really is what they say it is. Also,I have seen on the news a lot lately that organic food is not any better for you than processed food which is something that I had always believed. I know that organic food is considered healthier since it is said that it does not include additives that are in processed food. Organic food is known to be providing people with more nutrients but honestly who really knows that for sure. I don’t think organic food is worth the money. Why should people have to pay more for food that is supposedly better for you which can’t even be proven to be healthier? I think organic food is a waste of money. Some organic foods are too expensive. Not everyone can afford to buy organic food so they have to go buy processed food since it is a lot cheaper.

What do i eat?
I am a very picky eater. When it comes to trying new things I would sometimes refuse to try them. Everything that I eat is either what my mother bought and cooked. My mother purchases food from Trade Fair, Associated and Pathmark. Most of the time I do not eat breakfast. When I do eat breakfast which is usually only on Saturdays I would choose to eat cereal, either cherrios, corn flakes or honey bunches of oats.Other items for breakfast may include waffles, eggs, toast. When it comes to lunch, I always bring my own lunch. I choose to bring applesauce along with either a peanut butter and jelly sandwich,or a turkey sandwich with lettuce, tomatoes and cucumber. If I am home for lunch I would usually have soup and fruit as well. For a snack I choose between a granola bar, sunflower seeds, graham crackers or a fruit. When dinner time comes along I would eat what my mother cooks. She often cooks meat. She often bakes chicken, along with that she would make rice, vegetables and salad. She often makes a lot of pasta which she would include chicken or beef in it. My mother also cooks beef which she would either make spaghetti, ziti, or burgers. Overall these are the main foods that I eat and enjoy with my family.
